I was 30 Way too old to fall for such nonsense. In my defense, my brain was addled from the pregnancy hormones. I started studying when I wa pregnant with my oldest, and my middle son was 3 months old when I got dunked.

I get so tired of people always bringing up "Black on Black" crime.

" the poster was trying to drive home the idea black people commit more crimes against themselves then white people do to them.
while it is true some black people do insult other black people who they believe are trying to fit in with caucasian people, white people, hispanics, asians, and other races do the same exact thing to people in their ethnic group as well.

there are people of every ethnicity and culture who would rather tear someone else down than put in the work to raise themselves up. that said, there is a long standing cultural bias against people with darker skin here in America. Even when it is invisible to the paler people, it is very noticeable to those who face it every day. I would love to see all cultures put more value on educational achievement and strong, committed relationships in all communities - there are plenty of fish-belly white people that seem to believe that book learnin' is for fools and parents have no obligation to actually raise their children.

by Tech49 ina little experience that happened very recently:.
another brother, an elder, and i were talking, i was explaining to him and giving him several examples of how a couple of the elders in our congregation were blatantly trying to run their own show, parading themselves around as "representatives" of the body, when the other brothers didnt know what the hell they were talking about.
they are using their "elder powers" to bully and push people around, causing a bit of angst and hurt feelings.

instead of the elder who made the accusation apologizing to them, they are made to feel like they should appreciate his overexuberence.. it struck me that this is a common tactic.

I grew up poor, or lower middle class at best. I watched my mom struggle and juggle and have to borrow money for basics at times. I *knew* no one else was going to take care of me, so I had better get good grades and go to college and get a good job. I agree that there is an element of luck - I stumbled into a very secure, very well paying government job with a defined benefit pension. I will be able to retire at 59 with a pension equal to 58% of my final salary for the rest of my life.
